Bring Back Your Natural Smile

~Crowns

Cracked, broken, decayed, or worn teeth can be “capped” with dental crowns, restoring a natural, healthy looking smile. Designed to fit snugly and function as normal teeth, crowns also protect teeth from further damage while preserving the correct alignment of your jaw’s natural bite.  Depending on your specific circumstances and preferences, crowns can be made from any of several durable materials, including gold, porcelain, and ceramic. Well cared for, they’ll often last for several years. According to the degree of restoration required, crowns can usually be designed and fitted in two steps: preparation and application.

Preparation

Dr. Anderson will carefully numb your mouth, and then prepare the problem teeth by gently removing the outer portion. This eliminates any decayed areas and creates the proper shape and size to accommodate the crowns. Next, a precise mold or impression of your teeth will be made and sent to a special professional dental laboratory. There, the crowns will be carefully produced for a custom-fit. Since the production process requires three to four weeks, you’ll be fitted with temporary custom acrylic resin crowns to protect your teeth and gums during this time.

Application

When your crowns are ready, Dr. Anderson will remove the temporary crowns, then carefully fit and adjust the permanent ones into place. They’ll be evaluated for appearance, color match, bite discrepancies, and accuracy of fit before finally being cemented to each of the prepared teeth.

Once the crowns are applied, you’ll need to brush and floss conscientiously to protect the base from the bacterial growth that can lead to gum disease. Also, you’ll want to visit Dr. Anderson regularly for checkups.
